Underwater Navigator Diver Course June 2025

Posted on November 24, 2024

Underwater Navigator Diver Course June 2025

We will be running the PADI Underwater Navigator Diver course on Sunday 8th June 2025.

It can be quite stressful in poor visibility underwater, improve your observation skills and learn how to use your compass more accurately underwater to find your way.

You will develop the techniques involved in navigating underwater within recreational limits while avoiding disturbing delicate marine life.

Build your confidence, save air and save energy.

We recommend taking the Navigation course before embarking on the Rescue course, it helps greatly with search patterns.

During your dives you will learn about:

  • Methods to estimate distance underwater
  • Natural navigation techniques
  • Compass navigation while making at least five turns
  • Underwater navigation patterns

You will need to do a small amount of home study before the course, this is all now done with the digital PADI home study eLearning material. You don’t need to come to the shop to get the course arranged and access your digital home study, this part of the course can all be arranged via email, of course we are more than happy to see you if you prefer to pop into the shop as you will need to fill out a short Medical Questionnaire and some standard PADI course forms. We will then send you the code for your home study, with instructions how to do this.

The water temperature in June is usually around 15-18 degrees for your thermal protection information, at this time of year you can use either a Drysuit or a wetsuit, it is your decision.

PADI Wreck Diver May 2025

PADI Wreck Diver May 2025

PADI Wreck Diver May 2025

We will be running the PADI Wreck Diver course on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May.

The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty shows you how to safely dive on a piece of history. Wrecks are a lure to many divers. Wrecks provide a challenge, a mystery, and are usually teeming with aquatic life.

Whether sunk on purpose as an artificial reef or the result of mishap, wrecks open fascinating windows to the past. Most divers find wrecked ships, aeroplanes and even cars/trucks nearly irresistible because they’re intriguing to explore, exciting avenues of discovery, and usually teeming with aquatic life. The PADI Wreck Diver course teaches you the ins and outs of rewarding, responsible wreck diving.

You will need to do a small amount of home study before the course, this is all now done with the digital PADI home study eLearning material. You don’t need to come to the shop to get the course arranged and access your digital home study, this part of the course can all be arranged via email and phone call, but of course we would be happy to see you here at the centre to fill all of the paperwork out before hand, you will need to fill out the standard RSTC Medical form and standard PADI Continuing Education forms prior to the dives.

Due to water temperatures in Stoney Cove all year round at depth, we strongly advise you to be drysuit trained for the Deeper dives, where it can drop to 7-8 degrees at 30m. However if you want to do the deeper dives in a wetsuit, it is your choice, but you WILL be cold at depth, please accept we may stop your course if we think you are too cold to continue.

Stoney Cove requires that we book your entry tickets into the site, we will need to do this ahead of time, please confirm your space by booking onto the course, we will request the lake entry fee be paid by either cash or bank transfer only. Please note that the entry fee costs are not included in your course fees.

You will need as a minimum a torch for your dives, however a main torch and a backup are always advised as part of your dive gear as a standard safety protocol.

PADI Deep Diver May 2025

We will be running the PADI Deep Diver course on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May, at Stoney Cove.

Dive with confidence at depths to 40m, by taking the PADI Deep Diver Specialty course. Learn to assess reasons for going deep, and making sure the dive objective is clear.

Stoney Cove requires that we/you book your entry tickets into the site, we will need to do this ahead of time, please confirm your space by booking onto the course, we will request the lake entry fee be paid by either cash or bank transfer only, or we can send you the link to book your tickets. Please note that the entry fee costs are not included in your course fees.

We strongly advise you to have a torch for the deeper dives, and a back up, which is safety protocol on deep dives.

PADI Twin-Set Diver course April May 2025

Posted on November 23, 2024

Twinset course April May 2025

The PADI Twin-set Diver course gives you the opportunity to dive with 2 cylinders for extended dive times. We will be running this course in April/May 2025.

Classroom and Pool Session: Sunday 26th April – 09:30am start

Lake Dives: Sunday 11th May at Wraysbury

Why use a Twin Set?

Diving with a twin-set (2 tanks banded together) has several benefits. If you want to explore this new route, and add an exceptional skill to your diving, learning how to use a twin-set safely is very important, taking the PADI Twinset specialty course is the best way to achieve this.

Having more available air is always a huge benefit. Having that in a set up that allows you to have a redundancy is a huge safety step. The average twin-set has the ability to shut one of the tanks off should you need to.

The purpose of the PADI Twin-set course is to familiarise yourself with the use of a twin-set. It will take you through the advantages of using the twin-set, the components of the set and how to best utilise them for you. You will learn how to manage your gas usage and plan your dives to safely dive with a twin-set.

Find out more about this course…

The water temperature in May is usually around 10-14 (ish) degrees, we recommend you are comfortably Drysuit trained before taking this course for thermal protection.

PADI D.S.M.B Diver Specialty April 2025

PADI D.S.M.B Diver Specialty April 2025

We will be running the PADI Delayed Surface Marker Buoy Diver (D.S.M.B) in March and April.

The pool session is on Sunday 30th March (9:30am start), the qualifying lake dives will be held on Sunday 14th April.

Surface Marker Buoys should be an integral part of your scuba dive gear. They are an important piece of safety equipment, every diver should own one.

The purpose of the DSMB Diver specialty course is to give you the knowledge and skills to safely deploy your DSMB/SMB, to know when and where to use it, and to give you a chance to practice these skills in a safe environment rather than on your first boat dive, which could cause problems.

Surface Marker Buoys serve a range of purposes. They are used to:

  • Allow shore cover / boat support an ascending diver
  • Allow boat crew to keep track of buddy teams on a drift dive
  • Alert boat traffic to the presence of a diver
  • Provide a visual reference and line for ascending divers
