If you have lost something in the water and want to retrieve it, the PADI Search and Recovery Specialty course is for you



Search and RecoveryHave you ever dropped something in the water? Are you looking for lost “treasure”?

The PADI Search and Recovery Specialty Diver course will teach you effective ways to find objects underwater and bring them to the surface. Small, large or just awkward, there is a way to bring them up.

Many factors must be considered when a team plans a search and recovery dive, this will alter how they search and the recovery methods used to achieve the end result. You will learn to asses these factors during the course.

The course can be challenging, but a lot of fun.


During four scuba dives you’ll practice:

  • Conducting search patterns using your compass and natural navigation.
  • Locating objects using various search patterns
  • Using a lift bag to surface large or heavy objects
  • Planning a search operation based on facts gathered about the lost object prior to the dive


/ 4 dives / 2 days (group course)


PREREQUISITES: 12 years old; (Jnr) Advanced Open Water Diver
(Jnr) Open Water Divers with PADI Underwater Navigator certification also qualify

COURSE CONTENTS: Home Study; Knowledge Development; Open water dives

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Underwater Slate; Underwater Compass; Optional Reel & Line

RECOMMENDED TEXTS: Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving
