PADI Advanced Open Water course May 2024

Posted on January 7, 2024

PADI Advanced Open Water course May 2024

PADI Advanced Open Water course May 2024

These dates are no longer valid – update on 23rd April 2024

Take the next step on from your Open Water course, move forward with the PADI Advanced Open Water certification.

This will be split over two weekends during May 2024.

SUNDAY 12th May – Wraysbury

We will be doing the Navigation Dive, the Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive and the D.S.M.B Dive.

SUNDAY 26th May – Stoney Cove or Vobster (TBC)

We will be doing the Deep Dive and the Wreck Dive.

You will need to do a small amount of home study before the course, this is all now done with the digital PADI home study eLearning material. You don’t need to come to the shop to get the course arranged and access your digital home study, we can arrange it over the phone or via email, the course can be paid for via BACS or credit card, we will then send you the code for your home study, with instructions how to do this. Or of course you can pop into the centre to book this and sort out all of your paperwork.

Due to water temperatures in Stoney Cove or Vobster all year round at depth, we strongly advise you to be drysuit trained for the Deeper dives, where it can drop to 7-8 degrees at 30m. However if you want to do the deeper dives in a wetsuit, it is your choice, but you will start to get cold at depth, please accept we may stop your course if we think you are too cold to continue. The shallow dives at Wraysbury can be done in either a wetsuit or drysuit.

Stoney Cove or Vobster requires that we book your entry tickets into the site, we (Ocean View) will need to do this ahead of time if it is Vobster, we will request the lake entry fee be paid by either cash or bank transfer only to us. If Stoney Cove, it will be bookable by yourself. Please note that the entry fee costs are not included in your course fees.

Required equipment: a torch for the deeper dives, and a slate for the reck Dives, and preferably your own DSMB and reel for the DSMB dive.

Underwater Navigator Diver Course August 2024

Posted on January 6, 2024

Underwater Navigator Diver Course August 2024

We will be running the PADI Underwater Navigator Diver course on Sunday 11th August 2024.

It can be quite stressful in poor visibility underwater, improve your observation skills and learn more accurately how to use your compass underwater to find your way.

You will develop the techniques involved in navigating underwater within recreational limits while avoiding disturbing delicate marine life.

Build your confidence, save air and save energy.

We recommend taking the Navigation course before embarking on the Rescue course, it helps greatly with search patterns.

During your dives you will learn about:

  • Methods to estimate distance underwater
  • Natural navigation techniques
  • Compass navigation while making at least five turns
  • Underwater navigation patterns

You will need to do a small amount of home study before the course, this is all now done with the digital PADI home study eLearning material. You don’t need to come to the shop to get the course arranged and access your digital home study, this part of the course can all be arranged via email, of course we are more than happy to see you if you prefer to pop into the shop as you will need to fill out a short Medical Questionnaire and some standard PADI course forms. We will then send you the code for your home study, with instructions how to do this.

The water temperature in August is usually around 20 degrees for your thermal protection information, at this time of year you can use either a Drysuit or a wetsuit, it is your decision.

Scubapro MK25 S620TI 60th Anniversary regulator

Scuabpro 60th Anniversary Mk25 S620Ti Regulator

SCUBAPRO celebrates its 60th anniversary as a dive industry innovator with an iconic limited edition regulator, the MK25 EVO/S620 Ti Carbon BT.

The MK25 EVO first stage features a special Black Tech, DLC-based coating that provides a shiny, deep black finish with higher scratch and oxidation resistance. The protective end cap includes a distinctive red “60 Year Anniversary” print.

The spring, which can be seen through the compensation chamber holes, features the same red color.

The S620 Ti Carbon BT second stage features a titanium barrel with knob ring and barrel nut, a handmade carbon fiber part fitted on the front cover and red “60 Year Anniversary” prints on the casing that match the red accents on the first stage.

FEATURES

  • Durable Black Tech DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating provides a shiny, deep black finish with higher scratch and oxidation resistance
  • Air balanced flow-through piston design provides constant and effortless airflow unaffected by depth, tank pressure, or breathing rate.
  • Patented XTIS (Extended Thermal Insulating System) fully insulates the inner mechanism from the environment, improving cold-water resistance and delaying ice formation in extreme cold-water conditions without compromising breathing performance.
  • Anti-freeze protection radically increases breathing reliability when diving in the most extreme water temperatures.
  • Two opposing high pressure ports allow the first stage to be positioned either up or down.
  • Four high-flow and one axial super high-flow low pressure ports on a swivel turret maximize hose routing options.
  • Air-balanced valve smoothes out the inhalation effort at varying depths and supply pressures
  • Diaphragm fits inside a more compact casing for maximum breathing sensitivity.
  • User controls include an easy-grip diver-adjustable inhalation effort knob and Venturi-Initiated Vacuum Assist (VIVA) lever.
  • Exhaust tee increases performance while directing bubbles out of the field of view.
  • Compact Hi-Flow mouthpiece is mounted on an enlarged mouthpiece pipe to improve airflow as well as mouth comfort.
  • Super-flow hose features an oversized bore that allows more air to flow on each inhalation.

Apeks MTX-R regulator

Meet the lovely Apeks MTX-R Regulator

The MTX-R is based on the MTX, a regulator that was developed in accordance with the United States Navy Experimental Dive Unit extreme cold water test. Innovations in design mean that the MTX-R regulator performs in almost freezing water at a depth of over 60 metres, something that very few other regulators on the consumer market can boast. With an innovative first stage design that helps to prevent ice build up around the diaphragm, the MTX-R is reliable, rugged and expedition ready.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

A first of its kind, over-moulded first-stage end cap and environmental diaphragm to prevent ice build-up that could cause a free flow in extreme circumstances. Forged 1st stage body gives maximum thermal performance. Ribbed diaphragm clamp on the 1st stage ensures improved heat exchange in cold water conditions. Angled HP ports allow for optimal hose routing and transmitter fitting. Parallel turret ports allow for improved hose orientation. Superb protection from impact damage on both the 1st and 2nd stage. Simple to use 2nd stage with no dive adjustment controls and a reduced chance of free flow. Double swivel hose for greater freedom of movement and comfort. Patented heat exchanger surrounds the valve mechanism, dissipating the cold caused by gas expansion while drawing in the warmth of the ambient water. Developed in accordance with the United States Navy Experimental Dive Unit extreme cold water test. Tested for Octopus use to 60 metres in cold water.
