The car was loaded and ready to go so we headed off to meet our new students, fit them for hoods and gloves and give the kit the final once over. Everything ship shape we headed in convoy to Divers Cove in Godstone which is a beautiful in-land dive site and by the time we arrived the sun had started to come out.
On Saturday we had a combination of Open Water and Dry Suit Speciality courses being run with a total of 4 students, 3 trainee divemasters and 2 club divers getting their first UK dive in for the year.
The water was a very toasty 12 degrees and the visibility……variable! First dive is always a pleasure dive to relax and orientate everyone to the site. Dive 2 and 3 saw the completion of the dry suit skills and drills and the emergence of 2 new dry suit divers!
Well done Linda and Anna!
A nice gentle free descent to the platform, fin pivots done, hovers completed and CESA successfully accomplished it was time for a pleasure dive. Carl directed us using his perfect navigation skills to the plane wreck and then back to the shore for the surface skills.
Due to the number of divers the visibility was less than brilliant so the decision was made to have a short surface interval and get the last few skills completed and then dry off and have a cheeky burger for lunch.
Success! A new open water diver and a new dry suit diver! Excellent!
Congratulations Miles and Sophie!
We arrived at the club at 7.30 and headed up to the bar to be greeted by a sea of faces both familiar and new. Wednesday night is club night but as this was the last Wednesday of the month it was presentation night so all those new and improved divers would be presented with their certs and rewarded with first dibs on the buffet!
We charged our glasses and waited for the remaining divers to emerge from the pool (free use on a Wednesday evening for club members!) and the call was given to take our seats in the large classroom ready for the ceremony to begin.
It was a busy night with a mixture of achievements and locations they had been completed in. A few of the courses were completed during some of the Ocean View organised club trips abroad.
Graeme and Carl started the roll call, congratulating each diver and giving them their cert cards which was accompanied by general banter and applause from the audience

Formalities completed the buffet was declared open and everyone tucked in and returned to the bar for further refreshment. The conversation quickly returned to the usual ‘where have you been’, ‘where are you going’ and lots of discussion about new shiny bits of kit!
Another great club evening!
Well done everyone!
