Hyperbaric Chamber visit February 2024

Chamber trip February 2024

Hyperbaric Chamber visit February 2024

We are organising a trip to experience a Dry Dive in the London Hyperbaric Chamber in Leytonstone London.

A diving accident can result from a diver’s inability to handle gas narcosis. A dry dive in the recompression chamber can prepare a diver mentally for what can happen underwater. You get to experience a demonstration of what dense air in the chamber actually does, you will undertake some small quiz/test, we will also be given a lot of really great information about the treatment and the centre.

Dry dives can be run two ways, as the experience alone, or as a chamber awareness specialty course, however it is up to each diver whether they wish to receive the PADI certification.

PLEASE NOTE: If there is an incoming emergency, the Dry Dive many be cancelled, as Divers we should all be happy that this is the case.

The experience needs to start at 9am to 9:30, it is a 4+ hour experience, which will mean a relatively early start from the Brighton area, about 8-8:30am, up to Victoria and a hop on the tube to Leytonstone.
The Dry Dive experience will be completed by approx 1-2pm, leaving plenty of time in London for a late lunch, a quick trip to the Museums or Galleries, a wander around Covent Garden, what ever you fancy doing!!

We need a minimum of 6 Divers to get this booked, with a maximum of 14 people.

If we have 14, we will do the dive in 2 groups, allowing the group outside to view the process form outside the chamber and to laugh at the antics of the silly narked divers inside the chamber!

On successful completion of the course a PADI Recompression Chamber Awareness Distinctive Specialty certification card is awarded to those who have selected that option.

Dry-Dives will be undertaken in a modern computer assisted multiplace Therapy Chamber.

Ocean View Kraken Rum PADI Aware & The Fortune of War Beach Clean Up

Beach Clean Article

Beach Blitz

We at Ocean View Diving joined forces with The team at Kraken Rum, PADI AWARE Foundation, and the team at the Fortune of War Pub for a Brighton Beach Blitz.

Ocean View Team

Team Ocean View! With PADI Aware and Kraken Rum, outside the Fortune of War pub with the results of the clean up.

We had planned to run a clean up both above and below water, but the windy weather put a stop to the dive, for safety reasons. The topside beach clean still went ahead, and whilst it was windy, it was a beautiful sunny day.

Beach View

A lovely sunny start to the day

We were so pleased with the turnout, given the forecast, we had 30 fantastic people join us to support our event. The topside Beach Blitz is as important as the underwater clean up, because if we can stop the rubbish going into the water in the first place, that’s the best option!

The Beach Blitz started with a meet up at the Fortune of War Pub on Brighton seafront.

Fortune of War

Our host for the day, The Fortune of War Pub.

The team at the Fortune of War were amazing letting us descend on the pub as a fantastic base of operations. With the backing of Kraken Rum, the World’s first cocktail bar that accepted litter as currency opened for the day in Brighton.

Briefing time, let’s get ready to go.

Volunteers getting ready to go

The volunteers started cleaning up from the stretch of beach in front of the Fortune of War, making our way towards the Pier. We then all made our way past the Pier down towards the music stage that was set up for the music festival taking place over the weekend.

A few of us made it to the beach in front of the festival stage. Once at the half way point we turned back to catch the new litter from the tourists, as the beach was getting busier.

Beach Clean

Some of our Ocean View volunteers sweeping the beach. Tammy, Andy and Alice.

We were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the beach as a whole, so hats off to the council teams who are out every day, but we still managed to get a large haul of extra rubbish that would have made it’s way into the sea.

Our presence on the beach even got a few of the tourists to ask if we could take their rubbish for them, whilst this could be seen as cheeky or a bit lazy, it is far better to end up in our collection bags, than on the floor.

We would like to say a big thank you to the team at COW PR who were with us on the day with Kraken to make it a really great day.

The Dive Against Debris part of the day was unfortunately cancelled due to the high winds that were forecast, we will be re-scheduling the Dive Against Debris, with the hope that the weather is on our side that day.

Below a quick video of the volunteers on the beach with the wind blowing, you can see the shore entry would have been ‘interesting’ had we tried to battle with wind and waves, and given the colour of the water, we would not have been able to see the rubbish, let alone collect it.

Thank you Jen for lots of the photos!! 🙂

Windswept, ready for a sit down.

Beach Clean Up

Beach Clean Up – Saturday 29th July

PADI Aware Foundation, Kraken Rum

Ocean View Diving Services & the Fortune of War Pub

Ocean View Diving Services, the PADI AWARE Foundation, Kraken Rum, and the Fortune of War Pub are joining forces for a Brighton Beach Clean Up this summer.

This will be both an under water and land based clean up, enabling lots of people to get involved, if we can stop the rubbish going into the water in the first place, that’s the best option!

Starting locally we can make a difference, by helping to keep our local beaches clean we can be part of a bigger community taking care of our environment.

WORLD’S FIRST COCKTAIL BAR THAT ACCEPTS LITTER AS CURRENCY OPENS IN BRIGHTON

  • The Kraken Rum is opening the world’s first cocktail bar where cash has been ditched in favour of exchanging a bag of litter for a round of delicious Kraken Rum cocktails
  • The first-of-its-kind beach bar will reward goers participating in an earlier beach clean with a party where all drinks are on the Beast as a thank you for protecting its ocean home
  • The Kraken Rum has partnered with marine conservation charity PADI AWARE to host the Beast’s Beach Blitz, a two-hour clean of Brighton Beach on Saturday 29th July, which will coincide with a dive for debris off Brighton Pier to help the charity in its mission to reduce ocean debris by half within the next decade
  • The Beast will be taking over Fortune of War on Brighton’s seafront for the cleaning extravaganza

Taking place on Saturday 29th July, the first-of-its-kind beach bar will reward hard-working goers participating in a clean of Brighton Beach with a mighty party where all drinks are on the Beast as a thank you for protecting its ocean home. Kicking off at Fortune of War on Brighton’s iconic seafront, the cleaning extravaganza will begin at 12pm sharp – with special Kraken binbags, litter pickers and safety equipment provided for all.

A joint initiative between The Kraken and marine conservation charity partner PADI AWARE, the two-hour clean-up will aim to clear every piece of litter from Brighton Beach – and for those looking to take it one step further, limited positions will be available to go beneath the depths of the sea and quite literally dive for debris.

Then, after a brisk morning of environmental adventuring in honour of The Beast, a selection of delicious Kraken Rum cocktails will be awaiting the return of those adventuring the clean on land or sea – and can be simply redeemed by handing over a full bag of litter!

THIS REGISTRATION IS FOR THE BEACH CLEAN ONLY

If you want to take part in Dive Against Debris Dive, please contact Ocean View Dive Centre as this is being arranged separately.

Beach Clean Up – Saturday 29th July

We all know that rubbish and plastic is a HUGE problem for our seas and the amazing creatures in it. More and more reports of how bad the plastic problem are in the news now, it is time to stop this attack on our seas and oceans.

We at Ocean View are joining forces with the PADI AWARE Foundation and Kraken Rum, and the Fortune of War Pub for a Brighton Beach Clean Up this summer. This will be both an under water and land based clean up, enabling lots of people to get involved, not just divers, if we can stop the rubbish going into the water in the first place, that’s the best option!

Starting locally we can make a difference, by helping to keep our local beaches clean we can be part of a bigger community taking care of our environment.

Beach cleans have a great visual impact to other residents and visitors, to highlight the need for keeping our beaches (and streets) clean. The timing of this, during the summer holiday period will have a huge impact, and will hopefully hi-light to visiting tourists to take their rubbish home instead of dumping it on the beach.

You don’t have to be a diver to be part of this, everyone can join in above and below the water to have an amazing impact.

The ‘Beach Clean’ part of the day

This will start at approx 12:00 to 2pm, with a meet up time of 11:30-11:45am.
Meeting Point is at the Fortune of War Pub on Brighton Seafront.

The Dive Against Debris part of the day

For divers
High Water on the 29th July is at 9pm.

To ensure we have plenty of time to actually do an underwater clean up during daylight hours, to ensure safety, we will be getting kitted up ready to get in the water about 2-3 hours before high tide, so around 6-7pm.
Exact time to be confirmed when we have diver numbers.
This will allow us to be doing the underwater clean up whilst we still have some daylight, on the incoming tide, therefore always pushing us to shore, not out!
We suggest meeting at 4:30pm for a briefing and getting ready.

We will run the dive for 45minutes to 1 hour.

Whilst the temperature in July will allow you to dive in a wetsuit or drysuit, we recommend and advise bringing some dive gloves to make sure you look after yourself.

We suggest getting your kit sorted the day before, or during the week beforehand to avoid having to deal with ‘interested’ tourists. We are working on a plan to get it there, once you sign up to the dive, we will have more details.

Of course, if the weather determines that it is not safe for divers, the beach clean can carry on above the water line.

Get in touch if you need to organise some dive equipment with us for the dive.
You will need to show us your certification card for equipment rental.

Ocean View at Paddle Round the Pier 2018

Posted on July 10, 2018

Paddle round the pier update report

Well it was a scorcher of a weekend, that’s for sure!

Our stand at PaddleWe were at Paddle Round the Pier with our Regional Manager from PADI Emma Hewitt, and Territory Director Jonas Samuelsson.

We were working alongside our friends at another local Dive Centre, Oyster Diving.

Together we were representing the dive industry as a strong front promoting diving in general and diving in the UK, lots of visitors to the stand were surprised at just how much we have to offer just off of our coast line in the UK.

During the weekend, there were so many fantastic events going on, but as we were busy chatting to so many people about courses and local diving, we didn’t get time to go and watch any of the fun paddle races in the sea.

We ran a joint raffle prize draw over the weekend, for 2 chances to win a Discover Scuba Diving experience for 4 people, worth £200, 1 prize being offered from each dive centre. To make all things fair, we got the Paddle organisers team to pick the names out of the bag, we have informed our lucky winner, who will receive a Discover Scuba Diving session for themselves and three friends, what a great treat to bring some new fans to the underwater world.

Jonas in Historical Dive gearWe were in the middle of the Paddle site, opposite the Historical Diving Society stand and tank. Jonas Samuelsson (PADI) and Paul from Oyster both got the chance to get suited and booted and went into the huge big tank in full-on original Brass helmet dive gear… what a great opportunity to see and experience what diving back in the day was really like.

In the tank

We were also lucky enough to get a couple of slots to go into the tank on Sunday, with our normal very light and portable dive gear on, we were just playing, the kids certainly loved the bubble rings!

I think in this shot I was mid mask removal – sunglasses replacement…

All in all, a great weekend, by the end of which we were all a little bit glowing!

Apparently Angela can smile

If you came by to say hello, thanks for the visit!
